Women and The Moon

As women we function on a (roughly) 28 day cycle just like the moon. How cool is that?! And, just as the moon moves through distinct phases, so do we. The 4 distinct phases of our cycle are the follicular, ovulatory, luteal and menstrual phase. Each is characterized by different hormonal fluctuations and each affects our energy, mood, desire to socialize, motivation and creativity in different ways.

For example during our follicular and ovulatory phases we have a bit more energy, are more communicative, can do more intense workouts and desire to get out to try new things and socialize. Whereas, during the luteal and menstrual phases we tend to need lighter, more restorative exercise, and are more prone to turn inward, ideally tapping into our intuition while reflecting on our lives, as our energy tapers off before and during our periods.

With each cycle phase our bodies also have specific nutritional needs as well. In the follicular and ovulatory phases we need more light fresh fruits and vegetables, whereas when we move into the luteal and menstrual phases we want more grounding root veggies and blood building foods with iron and minerals.

When we begin to support our bodies through the various cycle phases, we not only optimize our fertility, while reducing PMS and other issues that can arise due to imbalanced hormones, but we tap into the mystery and beauty of our highly intelligent bodies in a whole new way.

If you are interested in learning more about cycle syncing, I highly recommend you check out Alisa Vitti and her books. Both In the Flo and Woman Code have revolutionized the way I relate to and take care of my body, helping me to feel empowered and supported in the most beautiful of ways.

Sending you love and vitality!
