We Will Get Through This!

It’s hard to believe it’s been a bit over a month since the quarantine started. This morning over text a good friend of mine said, “everyday is groundhog day.” It felt like the perfect description of what we are all experiencing. I am doing my best through this time to take care of my mind and body, while connecting with friends and loved ones and also considering, "How can I be of service in the midst of so much suffering.” I thought I’d share a few of the people, and things that have helped me to feel grounded when I’m anxious or fearful and have brought some form of beauty, joy or nourishment to my life in this time where everything feels very heavy.

I’ve been taking Ryan Heffington's livestream dance class on Instagram several days a week to lift my spirits and to join in with 4,000 to 6,000 other people around the world dancing together from our homes. I can’t tell you how good it feels to move with so much freedom, joy and playfulness. We do moves like the pretty pony, heavy diaper, lazy hippie and the scarecrow. One of my favorite parts at the end of each class is standing with our eyes closed, with an angelic song playing in the background and our hands on our hearts while Ryan repeats with so much love, “We Will Get Through This, We Will Get Through This, We Will Get Through This.” In this time of disconnection, his class is providing me with a deep sense of connection.

To keep my immune system strong I’ve been making ginger and turmeric shots, and I have found them to make a huge difference! There have been a few times over the last month where I felt a bit of a scratchy throat or a headache and so I’d make one of these shots and would wake up the next day feeling much better. To make a shot, I run a 4 inch piece of ginger and a few pieces of fresh turmeric root through my juicer. You can add lemon juice, black pepper, honey or warm water for additional immune boosting nutrients and to make these spicy shots a bit more palatable, or just drink as is! Also, don’t worry if you don’t have a juicer, you can blend the ginger and turmeric with water and then strain for the same immune boosting effects!

I’m into all things wellness as a health coach, and a longtime source of inspiration for me has been CAP Beauty based of out New York. I’m loving their Instagram Stories recently because they feature different wellness practitioners and entrepreneurs asking them how they are coping during this time. It’s a nice way to feel both inspired and to be reminded that we are all going through this together.

A few other things supporting me through this time:

  • Loading up on Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc, Selenium and Probiotics

  • Shiitake Mushrooms - proven to fight inflammation, are antimicrobial and boost immune function

  • Celery Juice - I drink this first think per the recommendation of the Medical Medium to boost hydrauchloric acid production for enhanced digestion

  • Yoga classes on Alo Moves - My yoga inspiration Talia Sutra is one of my favorite teachers on Alo Moves

  • Breathwork - I downloaded an app called Breath Guru by Alan Dolan and have found it a great tool for when I need to release anxiety

  • I’ve also been making it a priority to practice guitar and am working on this song in my voice lessons with this amazing woman who does voice lessons over FaceTime right now

I’d love to hear what you all are doing during your quarantine to support yourselves! Sending you all my love and wishes for health and peace. xo
